“Felted Glass” came out of a period of work I pursued in the late 90s. I was interested in embracing delicacy and vulnerability. Vulnerability is usually considered a weakness, but as an artist, I view it as an often untapped strength. Being vulnerable requires plumbing depths that can be hazardous to explore. The felted glass in this piece comes from a small shot glass that was broken into sharp pieces. Wool was felted around it using a traditional wet felting method. Felting wool with soapy water requires a delicate and repetitive touch. Looking back, I think the process was similar to healing a wound.”
